W.B Chair
Size: 35x40x60cm
Material: Wood balls

The use of wooden beads is one of the consequences of the widespread of a dominant religion in Taiwan—Taoism. People believe that wooden beads are spiritual materials that can bring good luck and benefit their health. In addition, it’s a material that is cool to the touch, making it an ideal material to make cushions and bed covers to avoid sweating.
It’s interesting to see how this material is widely applied in every corner of Taiwan. People are used to putting wooden bead pads on the seat surface of chairs (even though the seat is comfortable enough). I assume that it perfectly represents the experience and intentions of religion and culture.
With an intention to present the observation directly, I designed a chair that is woven into such culture—A chair that is totally made of wooden beads.
