Packing Stool

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), commonly known as Styrofoam, is a rigid, porous plastic widely used as protective packaging material. In everyday life, it is often repurposed as cushioning—wrapped around simple metal structures as a substitute for seating pads.
Packing Stool transforms this improvised use into a deliberate design strategy. Recycled and melted EPS is extruded and wrapped around the metal leg structure of a discarded chair—once damaged and no longer functional—reconstructing it into a seat that can be used again.
保麗龍（發泡聚苯乙烯 EPS）是一種硬質的多孔性塑料，經常作為產品包裝的緩衝材料，在生活中也常可見緩衝材料的延伸使用，在簡陋的金屬結構表面包覆緩衝材料替代坐墊。Packing stool轉化這個妙用，將回收融化的保麗龍，以擠出的形式包裝在（路邊撿來的）損壞失去乘坐功能的椅腳金屬結構上，成為一把可以再被乘坐的椅子。

︎︎︎TEXTURE EXPERIMENT
Different water-to-acetone ratios produce distinct extrusion textures.
The lower the water content, the weaker the extrusion outcome. In contrast, increasing the proportion of water results in a denser extruded form with a wider diameter. However, higher water content may also lead to instability in the material behavior.
