Polystyrene (EPS) is one of the most widely used plastics, which is often made into protective packaging in Taiwan. The easy-to-get but hard-to-recycle*1 polystyrene packaging is commonly transformed into a cozy substitution as a part of the assemblage of everyday objects on the street, such as cushion, handle or helmet.
Packing Stool presents the wisdom of common people by covering melting polystyrene on the rusty chair, turning the packing process into the final texture and making all the waste material formed as a new object.
*1 There are only approximately 20 polystyrene factories in Taiwan. However, around 2,000 tons of polystyrene need to be recycled per year. The amount of recycling stations could not meet the demand for recycling polystyrene. In addition, polystyrene is light in weight but large in scale, which makes the shipping cost increase year by year, and makes it even harder to be recycled. Many of them end up dumped in landfill sites.

︎︎︎TEXTURE EXPERIMENT
Different ratios of the solution of water in acetone will result in different extruded textures.
In summary, the less the water is, the weaker the outcome is.
In contrast, if we increase the proportion of water, we could get a denser extruded form and wider diameter.
However, the state will become unstable.
